Are You Insured?

Are you insured?

Typical response from Nigerians would be: "Why should I be insured?" or "I don't need insurance...God is my insurance!" "If it is the will of God for evil to happen, it will happen!"
You may be surprised by these responses, but I bet you that a carrying a survey amongst Nigerians to know if they are insured will give you these responses because of their mindset about insurance.

The need for individuals or entities to be insured in these uncertain times in we are in our nation cannot be overemphasized...what with all the security challenges in different parts of our nation, the poor state of road infrastructures, increasing lawlessness amongst certain class of citizens, and the seeming helplessness and lack of political will on the part of those in positions of authority to tackle these national challenges.

Consider the fire incidents at different times in different parts of our nation; precious lives were lost, properties worth billions of Naira destroyed. It would shock you that many of these losses were never insured!

What about losses from the destructive actions in certain communities and places in the North Central, North Eastern and North Western parts of Nigeria by the Fulani herdsmen, Islamic terrorists, and bandits from the last decade till date? Precious lives lost, properties destroyed, and a huge mass of people displaced-men, women, and children!

Many of the survivors of these unfortunate incidents will have to suffer unnecessarily for what was, in most cases, never their fault. But if there's an insurance cover in place, then their burden would be eased to some extent as they approach their insurance companies and submit a request for their claim to be processed.
Then you talk about fire incidents, natural disasters, and automobile crashes rampart in other parts of the country; properties are destroyed, injuries or deaths occur...and sadly too, there is no insurance cover in place!

It hurts me whenever I listen to some survivors of the unfortunate incidents appealing for  assistance from governments, corporate entities and members of the public via news channels on public or private television (and radio) stations. IF ONLY THEY WERE INSURED!

It may interest readers that in my country Nigeria. awareness on the benefits of being insured is very low...
With the exception of large entities, and enlightened individuals, majority of the populace lack proper enlightenment about the insurance industry and the benefits they offer in the area of taking up their liabilities, and as such, they carry the burden of their liabilities in these uncertain times, alone...

Here's a strong appeal to small and medium scale enterprises, groups, and individuals to get insured today, and entrust their liabilities to trusted hands in this nation of ours that seems to daily abound with uncertainties, and unfortunate incidents.
